 THE COMMITTEE

MEET OUR COMMITTEE...

Here's what the people behind our events think about Campus

Sara Saigol

I am Campus Coordinator and I love the fact that this is a space where young people can explore their Muslim identity in a spiritual, searching, respectful and friendly atmosphere. It's just such a warm place to be and you can ask any questions you like and have really tricky conversations.

Fun fact about me...

I am definitely at least double the age of most participants! This is one of my favourite projects ever! In my spare time I am a keen badminton player and cyclist.

I'm a GP with interests in training, mentoring and musculoskeletal medicine.

I'm a longstanding member of initially, the Young Muslims UK and later, the Islamic Society of Britain, where I have held numerous posts including head of training and development and course organiser for the advanced level Summer Islamic Studies Residential courses.

I've been studying and teaching Islam at a lay level since his late teens, developing interests in comparative religion, usul al hadith, usul al fiqh and Islamic history. I'm particularly concerned with the challenge of how to make core Islamic teachings relevant to our contemporary context.

I'm also the lead teacher at the online study circle for ISB Campus, running a two-year course entitled, "Classical to Contemporary: Muslim and British."

Campus makes me so happy, to see such a dynamic and intelligent group of young people dedicating their time and effort to improving themselves and the world around them. Everybody is made to feel welcome and representation is so important. A place where your voices can be heard and your words matter.

Fun fact about me...

I’m part of a large choir that sings show tunes and pop song melodies. We perform concerts twice a year to raise money for charity.

I love the breadth and nature of topics that are covered at Campus programs as they are often seldom covered elsewhere.

Fun fact about me...

I've flown a plane.

I love Campus because of the amazing group of people you get to meet and learn about your faith with. The talks are always relevant and fascinating and I look forward to helping to make other people’s experience of campus as good as mine.

Fun fact about me...

I am a Muslim revert and a politics and STEM nerd.

I love the atmosphere of the Campus events, there really is no other space like it. The welcoming, non-judgmental and fun environment is what keeps me being a part of ISB Campus.

Fun fact about me...

I'm a black belt in karate and have been going to karate classes since I was 11!

I have been involved with ISB in one way or the other, from quite a young age & I have found ISB Campus to be a unique and beautiful community. It caters to a wide range of muslims, stimulates great conversation and action, and has allowed me to interact and make friends with many intelligent, caring and creative individuals. This has all helped me better myself as a Muslim. Also, becoming more involved with Campus has been one of the best decisions I’ve made recently & I hope to contribute further to this special environment.

Fun fact about me...

I enjoy many sports and I’m a black & white belt in karate and kickboxing.

What drove me to be a part of campus was their idea that everyone from any Muslim background and Islamic belief can come together and discuss real life issues that everyday Muslims face in modern society and more. And this is all done whilst friendships are being made.

Fun fact about me...

I am a basketball enthusiast, a film company owner and a baker. I’ve faced fears doing a skydive and zip-lining but I have so many more to do.

Hannah Ali

Being surrounded by so many different Muslims it's nice to see open discussions on different opinions in a respectful environment. It's also nice to have talks that go through different schools of thought and interpretations giving us a wide view on a topic.

Fun fact about me...

I love to paint and currently studying fine art at uni!

The warm and inclusive environment provided at every ISB Campus event is what really drew me. I have met some lovely people, and everyone is so friendly and welcoming and have had the opportunity to engage in some thought-provoking discussions about Islam and being a Muslim in today’s world.

I really like how at Campus, we aren’t afraid to discuss topics that may be considered taboo, and approach them from an Islamic perspective.

ISB Campus is a beautiful community and it’s been a huge privilege to be a part of it and to now be able to give something back. I’m hoping to be able to contribute to this stimulating and caring environment and allow other people to experience what I experienced here. Looking forward to many more years of ISB Campus iA!

ISB Campus creates a safe space for us to discuss and learn about our beautiful religion. The discussions and talks have really taught me to think differently.

Additionally the people I have met at ISB Campus have become some of my closest friends.

I’m currently a student at the University of Birmingham. I’m in my third year, and I’m studying dentistry.

I have been involved with ISB for my whole life, and my favourite memories as a child was coming to camps and meetings and playing with my friends outside. Now, older and wiser (not much) I am helping to organise and recreate the atmosphere I loved throughout my childhood, not only for myself but for other like-minded people. This has improved me so much as a person and on reflection I’m so grateful to be able to be part of such an amazing thing!

I’m currently studying Law in London.

ISB Campus has always been like a second family for me. The atmosphere is consistently one that is open, friendly and supportive and the attendees non judgemental. I have found, whether in a talk or just with the mentors, no question is too difficult and I really think this adds to the uniqueness of Campus.

The atmosphere at campus events is truly unique, and I love every second of each event. My favourite thing about campus is seeing all of my friends there, all in one place, and the fact that I’m always making new friends! I always look forward to Campus events, and I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of it.

Fun fact about me...

I have owned a green Lego man for around 15 years, and he came in a toothbrush! He even has a real, 3D nose and ears! His name is Steve. He is the star of the 2 stop motion animations I produced in the late 2000s.

I love Campus because of the warm and positive energy everyone has here. We are a diverse community who are proud and passionate about our faith. I’m so grateful for the supportive and uplifting community we have in this organisation. Personally, it’s helped me to develop a greater confidence in myself and I hope more people feel the same love i feel in this group of accepting and forward-thinking young Muslims!

Fun fact about me...

I have a blog! I love to post my writing and poetry on - yes, this is a shameless plug hehe :) www.littlemisszenblog.wordpress.com
