My name is Mariyah Aseri and I am a 4th year dental student and the Regional Lead for Campus North. On Thursday 24th December myself and a fellow Campus student, Maryam Zafar, delivered 15 care packages to Copperdale House. This volunteering project was co-ordinated by Auntie Azra Khan from ISB Manchester, and she supported us throughout the process.
A few days earlier, we brainstormed the items we could include in the gift bags, such as socks, hygiene products and snacks, which we were then able to purchase thanks to kind donations towards the project. When assembling the gift bags, Maryam’s sister Maheen joined us and we formed a little 'conveyor belt’. Maheen and I folded and tied bows on the socks, Maryam did some neat lettering on the gift bags and wrote a nice holiday message from ISB, and we all assembled the items in the care packages ready to send off.
When delivering the gift bags, we met with Anne and Terry from Copperdale House, who were so welcoming and lovely and their home looked like a warm and inviting place for all! They explained that many young people experiencing homelessness are provided shelter at the house, and Anne and Terry look after them. Their hard work was so touching to see, and it was such a rewarding opportunity to be able to brighten someone’s day, especially in the festive period which can be a tricky time for some. We hope lots more Campus students can help support the lovely couple in their future endeavours!
A special thank you to Auntie Azra who leads a lot of charitable projects within the community MashaAllah, and hopefully we can extend these volunteering opportunities to Campus students InshaAllah so keep an eye out! If you would like to find out more about volunteering with ISB, or would like to make a donation towards some of the projects we are working on, feel free to get in touch by sending us an email on firstname.lastname@example.org. JazakAllah for your continued support.
